And the Winner Is.....

Four North Stanly Middle School students received recognition for their artistic skills in the 2012 Stanly County Public Library Bookmark contest.  Students drew original designs for their bookmarks and focused on reading, books and the library and the designs were judged against 5th and 6th grade students all over the county.  In art class the students learned about careers in art and took on the roll of the graphic designer.  They had to think about their target audience, design elements, theme, and overall appearance when sketching out their bookmarks.  Each student had to create at least four sketches before choosing the best design.  Their hard work paid off!

Gavin (pictured below) and Hunter each received an honorable mention for their designs and Carter and Emery both won first place awards for their bookmarks.

These students' bookmarks will be printed off and available at the Stanly County Public Library..

Folk Art Face Jugs!

Omar working on his scoring technique!

 Maddening Jug!

Melissa has it "handled"

Happy- Sad- Mad -Surprised- Guilty....a plethora of emotions displayed in the faces of these jugs!
6th grade students learn hand-building techniques that they will build on for future projects...and because we call them "ugly" jugs the students are ALL successful.   They can stop worrying about perfection and just enjoy the process and the outcome.  It's always our favorite project of the year!
